Dundee

South Africa

The small mining town of Dundee was originally established by a Scottish settler when large coal deposits were discovered in the area. This was to be the start of great turmoil as Dundee became the site of the Anglo-Boer War in 1899. Today the Talana Battlefields Museum boasts brilliant exhibits of the history and the battles of the area. Dundee is the perfect location from which to set out to understand the role the British and the Boers played in shaping South Africa as we know it today. If you look carefully, you’ll notice the hints of Scottish influence in this quaint town that oozes culture and history.
